The campfire law

Five rules of fire

Fire keeps us warm and cooks our food. Fire can also burn down a forest in an afternoon. Knowing fire means knowing its rules first.
Progress0 of 5 steps
  1. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘งNever alone

Children make fire only with a grown-up. Always.
  2. ๐Ÿ’งWater close, always

A bucket of water (or a hose) is right next to the fire before the first match is struck. Never leave the water.
  3. โญ•Ring of stone or dirt

Build the fire inside a ring of rocks, or in a dug pit. The ring keeps the fire from sneaking out.
  4. ๐ŸŒฌ๏ธWatch the wind

If the wind is blowing hard and bending the trees, today is not a fire day. Fire and wind together = trouble.
  5. ๐ŸšฑDrown it before bed

When you're done, pour water until you hear no more hissing. Stir the wet ashes with a stick. Pour more. Cold to the touch is the only OK.
