The forager's law

Never put a plant in your mouth without a grown-up

The woods are full of food and full of medicine โ€” and a few plants that will hurt you. Today we learn the rule that keeps every forager safe.
Progress0 of 4 steps
  1. ๐Ÿ–๏ธHands, not mouth

We learn plants with our eyes, fingers, and nose first. Tasting is last and only with a grown-up who knows the plant.
  2. ๐Ÿ‘ƒSmell test

Crush a leaf gently between your fingers. Does it smell like onion? Like mint? Like nothing? Smells are clues.
  3. ๐Ÿ‘€Three look-arounds

Look at one leaf, then up at the whole plant, then down at the ground. What grows near it?
  4. ๐ŸงบOne basket, one plant

If you collect, keep each kind of plant in its own little bag. That way nothing sneaky gets mixed in.
